La vie en Rose

Happy Tuesday, dear friends! I hope that your week is off to a great start. Can you believe that this is the last week of January? Where has the month gone? Valentine’s Day will be here before we know it, but there is no need to worry. Today, I am joining my talented tablescaping friends to bring you some beautiful Valentine’s Day inspiration. Our wonderful leader and organizer is the sweet Rita at Panoply. A list and links to the participants can be found at the end of this post.

The theme for my table is all things pink and lots of pretty roses. La vie en rose seemed to be the perfect title. It is a french phrase meaning “life in pink” or “life in rosy hues.” Several weeks ago, my daughter Caroline and I were watching one of our favorite movies, Sabrina, starring Audrey Hepburn. It is the perfect love story and in the movie Sabrina says the perfect line.

“La vie en rose. It is the French way of saying, ‘I am looking at the world through rose-colored glasses.’ “

-Audrey Hepburn

I chose to set a cozy table for two in front of the fireplace. To create the perfect Valentine’s Day setting, my grandmother’s Spode Rosebud Chintz china and lots of glorious roses seem to be a most fitting choice.

For the centerpiece, I chose red and bright pink roses accented by light pink spray roses. Lilac colored alstroemeria and seeded eucalyptus add additional interest to the arrangement. A pink mercury glass hurricane is the perfect vessel to hold the bouquet.

At each placesetting, tiny glass vases hold small bouquets of additional roses and seeded eucalyptus. Tucked under each bouquet is a battenburg lace napkin.

A lace table runner runs down the center of the table. The flatware I chose to use is Hotel Vintage by Wallace.

A Waterford candlestick holder with a pink flameless candle adds a special romantic touch and a little sparkle.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.

-1 Corinthians 13

“There is no charm equal to tenderness of the heart.”

-Jane Austen

“There is simply the rose; it is perfect in every moment of its existence.”

-Ralph Waldo Emerson

“Nobody has ever measured, even poets, how much a heart can hold.”

-Zelda Fitzgerald

“There is only one happiness in this life, to love and be loved.”

-George Sand

  12. Oh, wow, Shannon! From the first photo of the flowers in the mercury vase, it just kept getting better and better! What a gorgeously romantic setting and use of prized possessions. Perhaps part of my love of vintage and antique shopping is in the elusiveness of never being handed down loved items such as you have from your grandmother. With nine kids, and a mother who would rather toss the old and move with trends, the relics of the past were lost. This is just so beautiful! Enjoy your quiet time you've prepared, and Happy Valentine season! Thank you for sharing your love language with us in these tablescape hops!

  13. Shannon, what a perfect spot to set up your la vie en rose tea party! It is absolutely charming and very English with the dishes, Waterford crystal candlesticks, teapot, and roses all set up by the wingback chairs. You made it a delightful space 🙂
