CREATING A DINING LINEN CLOSET ON A BUDGET

Lately, I have been in a nesting mood.  It has me rethinking storage spaces in my home.  As embarrassing as this may sound, some things have been scattered about here and there.  The issue that I am addressing today is table linens.  Sadly, they have not been stored in one centralized place which makes them difficult to find when you are setting up a particular table setting.  So, I started to contemplate the perfect location to store all things pertaining to a table setting together-napkins, placemats, napkin rings, tablecloths, chargers, and candles.  What I came up with was the perfect solution.

I have a tiny coat closet in my entry hall.  It is not really suitable for coats, and truth be told everyone here has big enough closets to store their coats.  So, I decided to turn the tiny coat closet into a centralized station for all my tablesetting necessities, and I love it!

Here is how the closet looked before.  As you can see, it is too small to hang many coats.

I was going to have my husband build shelves for the closet.  We headed to Lowes to buy lumber for shelving, but I decided to stop in the storage area first.  Here we found, a less expensive and workable solution instead of buying lumber for shelves.  I purchased a hanging closet organizer that has several shelves to store napkins and placemats.  There were several different ones to choose from, but I paid a little extra and bought the sturdier one.  I paid around $18 for this model.  This was a lot less expensive and a lot less work intensive (for my husband) than building shelves.  The solution worked perfect!

Second, I purchased a nice sturdy basket with handles.  This works perfectly for my napkin ring collection, which is growing.  I spent around $10 for the basket.

Third, I placed all of my tablecloths on hangers and hung them next to the hanging organizer.

Lastly, I have two upper shelves.  This is where my basket was placed along with my stacked chargers. On the top shelf, I placed my candles and candle holders.

Here is the closet all finished.  For less than $30, I was able to make over the closet and create a more workable space.  I am so happy with how it turned out. It makes setting up a table so much easier.
