Early Spring in the Sitting Room

Happy Monday, dear readers! I hope this post finds you well and enjoying the month of March. It has been a while since we had a visit, and it was my hope to post sooner. However, these past couple of months have been busy, and there hasn’t been a lot of interesting things going on in the decorating of my home.

The year started with a couple of us getting a respiratory infection that was relentless. Then, after that passed, poor Mr. Bleu had to have an emergency surgery. He became very ill one night after dinner and had to be rushed to the hospital. His white blood count was very high and upon further testing it was revealed that his gall bladder had an abscess, was full of stones, and about to rupture. Within hours, he was in surgery. I am so thankful for the wonderful care that he received. My sweet husband works so hard and never complains. I am so grateful that he was home when this happened. He is doing lots better, and things are getting back to normal.

With spring fast approaching, I decided to start pulling out the bunnies and adding spring touches to the house. Today, I would like to invite you into the sitting room for a cup of tea and a visit. This is one of my favorite rooms to enjoy a cup of tea in the bright sunshine. It is full of windows that provides lots of natural light.

“If we had no winter the spring would not be so pleasant.”- Anne Bradstreet

On the coffee table, I created a spring vignette with white tulips, pink candles, and a favorite rabbit.

“Behold, my friends, the spring is come; the earth has gladly received the embraces of the sun, and we shall soon see the result of their love.”-Sitting Bull

A pink orchid and a Cloisonne rabbit add a little touch of spring to the table beside my grandmother’s settee.

“Nothing ever seems impossible in spring, you know.”-L.M. Montgomery

Posies and treasures create little vignettes on the end tables flanking the tufted pink settee.

“There is something infinitely healing in the repeated refrains of nature-the assurance that dawn comes after night, and spring after winter.”-Rachel Carson

Sweet friends, I am so happy that you joined me for a visit today. I will be back on Thursday to share more of my spring decor with you. May you have a most happy and blessed day!

  1. Shannon – I am so sorry to hear about the respiratory virus that got you down, AND Mr. Bleu's emergency surgery. So very frightening! I am glad to hear he is on the mend, but no doubt he is healing well due to your wonderful care! I love these pictures and how fresh and pretty the sitting room looks. The pink is beautifully offset by the subtle blues you added in. It looks balanced and thoughtful, cozy and inviting. As much as I love your posts and your home, I appreciate you showing up in my inbox whenever you can. Your real life is far more important than your blog. (I may be speaking to myself, as well, here…!) Best regards !

  2. Good morning, Shannon. I am so happy that your hubby is better, and things are finally getting back to normal. The sitting room is stunningly dressed for spring and Easter.. The vignette on your butler’s tray table is lovely with the darling bunny and white tulips. Your grandmother’s settee and the tufted one invite tea and conversation. I can only imagine how much you enjoy this light filled space. I have thoroughly enjoyed my visit, the lovely quotes, and your charming hospitality! Happy Monday, sweet friend!

Shannon, so glad everyone is on the mend. We spent six weeks sick w/ a horrible respiratory infection that, unfortunately, began four days before Christmas… the holiday was far from merry. Your sitting room is absolutely dreamy! I love everything about this cheerful room. Would you be so kind to disclose the wall & trim work paint colors & manufacturer as I'd love to use them in my guest bedroom that is done in pinks, green & ivory. Hugs!

    • Hi Bobbi, thank you so much for your sweet words! I am so sorry that you were sick during the holidays. So many people that I have talked to were sick during the winter with a respiratory infection that seemed to hang on forever. I hope that you are feeling much better now. The wall color is Palladian Blue by Benjamin Moore. I love that color so much that I just finished painting my bedroom the same color, and I hope to share it soon. The trim paint was chosen by the previous owners, and I do not know the color. I do have a picture of the label of the paint can with codes. If you would like, you can email me at shannon@bellebleuinteriors.com, and I will share a photo of the label with the codes. It is a Kelly Moore paint. I hope that you have a wonderful rest of your week!

  12. Shannon, Your sitting room is so bright and cheery, like Spring itself! It would a favorite spot for me to sip tea or read with the wonderful light and beautiful décor. Your bunny is adorable! I’m so glad your hubby is on the mend after surgery. Happy Thursday ♥
