A Sweet Halloween Table

Welcome friends, to my sweet Halloween table. You will not find anything scary at my table just lots of precious memories and sweet treats.

Today, I am so thrilled to be joining my talented tablescaping friends to bring you our Halloween tables. Our wonderful host is my blogging friend Rita at Panoply. A list and links to the participants can be found at the end of this post.

It was a beautiful autumn day, and I chose to set my Halloween table of sweet treats and memories outdoors. Oklahoma is in a severe drought and unfortunately my outdoor gardens are not that attractive. The deer are starving and have chosen to make my gardens their lunch, dinner, and breakfast. The flower bed in the background has been replanted for the third time. The most beautiful Endless Summer Hydrangeas once resided in that bed. Can you believe that the deer have eaten 16 hydrangea bushes, all of the shrubs on the west side of my house, several geraniums, numerous autumn blaze ferns, and a plethora of other plants and shrubs. In our area, the deer are terribly overpopulated and very hungry due to our present weather conditions. We are praying every day for rain, and my heart goes out to the ranchers and farmers who are struggling with these harsh conditions.

Instead of a traditional tablescape, I decided to set a buffet style table with lots of delicious treats to tempt your sweet tooth. I chose a black and white checked table cloth for the anchor of my setting. The colors of autumn look so striking against the black and white.

Cookies, sweet little pails of Halloween candy, and lots of candy corn are ready for my guests. I have to admit I have a weakness for candy corn.

A pitcher of punch and mason jars with cute striped straws on a MacKenzie-Childs Courtly checked tray await thirsty visitors.

A stack of cute pumpkin plates are perfect for holding yummy treats. The plates are by Better Homes and Gardens and were purchased several years ago.

If you have followed my blog for a while, you know this Jack-o’-lantern always graces my Halloween table. My mom put him out when I was growing up, and I put him out for my children when they were little. This year, I perched him on a cake stand surrounded by a fall wreath of berries, leaves, and pinecones.

These darling vintage looking children dressed for Halloween figurines were purchased several years ago. My youngest was very little and spotted them at the grocery store in a Halloween display. He said that their faces looked like baby angels. That melted me, and I just had to bring them home to add to my collection of Halloween decorations.

My sweet friends, I am so happy that you were able to gather around my Halloween table. Your visits and kind comments always mean so much to me. Please be sure to visit all of my tablescaping friends. You will find their links below. Have a most happy and blessed day!

  6. Good morning, Shannon. Your treats and non spooky table is perfect for me and for children. I fall in the camp of loving candy corn. The cookies on the pedestals look delicious and little ones would love to grab one or two. I love the story of your centerpiece. Holidays are made for memories and I am glad you carry on the tradition. Your swing looks so inviting. I so hope you get some rain and I understand the problem of hungry deer and animals. We also need rain.

It is a treat to hop with you!

  7. Shirley @Housepitality Designs

Happy Fall & Halloween Shannon! Love your sweet Halloween table filled with the cutest of pumpkins and wonderful plate stack! I can relate on the deer situation. I cased a pack of 6 deer from my front yard the other day. Thank goodness they don’t eat my mums! I wish you a most beautiful day!

  8. Shannon, if you leave your adorable table out too long the guests might end up being the deer!
I love how happy and cheerful everything on the table looks. And I admit to liking candy corn, plus the cookies you also featured 🙂
    Happing hopping with you!

  9. Good Morning Shannon!
Your Halloween Table is filled with inspiration and loving memories.
The sweet treats is what makes it so Happy along with memories of your grandmother… I love it all.
Happy Halloween dear friend! Thank you for the inspiration!

  10. Your table is very special because of the Jack-o-lantern your mother displayed as a child. In spite of the drought, your outdoor area is beautiful, and I hope y'all get some rain this fall! I also like the tall stands with the cookies. Very cute idea creating a buffet table!

  11. I hop you get some rain soon! Your sweet grazing table looks delish – I have a sweet tooth and would love to be snacking here!! Love your pumpkin dishes and especially your tray (i have this. tray in all sizes and use at least one of them every day!).

  12. Shannon, your post is perfect for Halloween! I am inspired to re-create it today for our grandson who will be with us after school several days this week. Many thanks for sharing your friendly fall picnic table scape. I have the needed items to replicate your special design except for your charming Halloween "angel" figurines so will substitute with what I do have and that's a big Dollar Store spider. With appreciation, Anita

  13. AWE, so cute a table Shannon…and I wish we could give you some of our rain (or flood waters) but this too shall pass as you know and your "dear friends" as I call our 'deer friends' might leave your plants and shrubs alone for greener pastures. LOL
I love the pumpkin memory and so glad you are keeping up that tradition…Your kids will also cherish it and speak lovingly about it to their kids. I know, because my kids have done just that over the years. We sometimes think they aren't paying attention but they do.
Another fun blog hop and so glad we are both a part of it. Happy October.

  14. Shannon – I recognize those plates from your posts over the years – and I have always thought they are so beautiful! But my favorite is your little Halloween characters sitting in their pumpkins….they are truly adorable. I am glad you still have them, along with your jack-o-lantern, to share with us. So sorry to hear of the drought, and they challenges that both animals and man are experiencing! Happy Halloween!

  15. very very pretty and so in to fall and halloween ……your tablescapes are always so lovely.

  16. Shannon, such a sweet Halloween table. I love your jack ‘o lantern as your centerpiece surrounded by berries. How special to have this handed down by your mom. The sweet angel faced pumpkin kids are adorable. The black and white checked tablecloth is perfect. A beautiful setting to enjoy these sweet treats. I am so sorry about your plants eaten by the deer. Let;s hope you get some rain soon. Always a pleasure to join you.

  17. Shannon this looks amazing! I love that you put this together outside to enjoy all the fall colors. All your festive pieces are so beautiful. So fun to blog hop with you!

    Karin

  18. Shannon,

I love your sweet figurines and fun table setting. The pumpkin plates are lovely, too! Blessings, Cecilia @My Thrift Store Addiction

  19. It would be a fun day to gather round your table and munch on those tempting sweets all afternoon with such a glorious fall day, Shannon! The buffet style is perfect for entertaining. The sentiment behind those little statues and jack o'lantern are the sweetest of all. Our summer was so strikingly opposite of yours. I actually had at least three very mature plants succumb to too much water from all the rain we had! I would be at war with the deer if I were in your situation. We actually have special permits and timeframes for hunting deer in urban areas to control the population when, the real fact of the matter is, development in rural areas have forced them into more urban areas. It's a conundrum, for sure. Thanks so much for joining the blog hop with your unique ideas of celebrating the season in a casual, outdoor way. It's all so very inviting!

  20. Oh so cute Shannon, and what a fun idea to set a Halloween treat table! I love your pumpkin centerpiece and the special memories behind it~ and new memories made by your son when he saw those cute figurines, so sweet! I adore the fun and cute side of Halloween, and appreciate no creepy spiders in the candy! I am so sorry you've lost so many shrubs, but at least you're feeding the hungry deer, poor things. I will add rain for Oklahoma to my prayer list 🙏 Your tablecloth is great with all your Halloween things, everything really pops!

  21. Shannon, I am so sorry to hear about all of your hungry critters. It really becomes a challenge when dealing with wild life. I can relate since we have very hungry critters here too that we compete to harvest the goodies. We were lucky to harvest the aronia berries before the birds picked them all off the bushes. Even though your landscape was work in progress throughout the season, your fun and sweet Halloween table really brings a smile to your backyard setting. I love the orange and black colors and your mom's jack o lantern is so sweet for your table. It makes a perfect picnic for goodies. You have some whimsical pieces that warm my heart. Your son is right, the figurines are so precious. It is great to find pieces that celebrate the holiday and not be entirely scary. Enjoy the holiday with your family. And good luck fencing off your area from critters that come to back yard for dinner.

  23. Shannon, How delightful your table is, set in the out of doors! I love the black and white check tablecloth. it sets off all of your orange accents so perfectly! It is always great to hop with you!

  24. Shannon, I loved that you placed your Halloween tables cap outdoors. So sorry to hear about your drought. Our area has been really lucky. I'm a big fan of napkins and tablecloths and I thought the contrast between the black and white and the colorful napkins was perfect. Really liked the plates. Happy Halloween.

  25. Jean Van Buskirk

    Hi, Shannon,
I was off here for a few month's and I missed you and all your wonderful thing's, but I'am back now, loved all the goodie's and make's you feel like we are all invited, thank's for sharing~~~Have a great week~~~Alway's, Jean V.B.~~~~~~

  26. Shannon, first, I'm so sorry about the loss of your beautiful hydrandeas and flower beds to the deer and draught. Hopefully, rain will come soon. I can't believe we both thought of a sweet Halloween table. Creative minds think alike. Love your pumpkin and your dishes.

  27. Shannon, Your Halloween buffet is adorable from your sweet figurines and mom’s Jack-o'-lantern. Black and white checks are a favorite of mine any time of year but especially at Halloween. Love your pretty pumpkin plates and pitcher too! Sending prayers for rain in your neck of the woods. Deer can wreak such havoc on a landscape. As always, it’s a treat to join you at the table and hop with you. Happy October ♥

  28. Shannon, how wonderful to set an autumn Halloween table outside! Nature makes the perfect backdrop for your festive, fun table. The black and white tablecloth provides a striking foundation to the great centerpiece, dishes and sweets.

  29. Shannon, your table is wonderfully welcoming!! Nothing to scare off the faint of heart, and everything to put a smile on your face. I like the way your family pumpkin resides over the festivities and in such a beautiful setting- even if the deer did eat everything in sight! We have an over population of deer around us as well, it never sits well with the garden.- so I feel your pain!
It is always a pleasure to hop with you, have a fun Halloween!!🧡

  30. What a sweet table indeed! I love the history of your pumpkin. Some times it is just the little things that create so many wonderful family memories! But, lets talk about those sweet treats! I have a wicked sweet tooth, so a buffet of candy is right up my lane! I would be the first in line 🙂 So sorry that you are going through a drought. The poor deer, I can't imagine how hard it must be to scrounge for food. And, your poor garden! Praying things get better and you get a good steady rain soon.

  31. Setting a buffet table in the garden is a terrific idea! Especially when stocked with Halloween treats! How wonderful to be able to use a treasured jack o'lantern from your own childhood to share with your kids and with us. Happy Halloween!

  32. Shannon, I couldn't help but smile when I saw your table. It's so happy and inviting…my daughter would love it! I agree that the Autumn colors look striking against the black and white tablecloth. I'm sorry to hear that your garden struggled with drought and a deer invasion this year. Hopefully things will be better next year. I hope you have a Happy Halloween!
