A Quiet Summer's Afternoon

Welcome, dear readers! I hope that you are doing well and enjoying the month of June. It has been a while since we had our last visit. May was an eventful month around our house. Every weekend was consumed with either a birthday party or holiday celebration. My daughter, Caroline, was also home for a visit before summer school started. I soaked up every moment of her being home and was sad to see her go.

In addition to all of the fun activities, we had storm damage to our roof that had to be repaired. In true fashion, the need for more repairs was discovered as well. The repairs started a domino effect that led to the entire exterior getting a new coat of paint. I sure am ready for things to slow down a bit and enjoy a quiet summer’s afternoon on the back porch.

Today, I am thankful to be joining 17 other table stylists to bring you our summer tables. Our gracious hostess is Rita from the blog Panoply. A list and links to the participant’s beautiful tables can be found at the end of this post.

For my table, the back porch seemed like the perfect spot to enjoy a late lunch on a quiet summer’s afternoon. Please gather around the table where a cold glass of peach tea awaits you.

“Summertime is always the best of what might be.”-Charles Bowden

An April Cornell tablecloth was the inspiration for my table. I adore its rich color palette and floral pattern.

Green straw placemats provide an added texture to the setting. Mikasa English Countryside plates topped with Williams Sonoma Famille Rose salad plates comprise a simple plate stack. The flatware is Haversham by Reed and Barton. The glassware is one of my favorites, Dublin, by Godinger.

Not having time to shop for flowers, I chose a coral double begonia that I already had on hand for the centerpiece. The pretty coral color ties back beautifully to the tablecloth.

A vintage wicker table is the perfect spot for the tea pitcher and dessert plates.

Sweet friends, I am so happy and grateful that you took the time to join me to celebrate summer’s upcoming arrival.

Have a blessed day and wonderful week! Please be sure to visit my friend’s beautiful tables.

How relaxing it must be to sit on your porch and enjoy a meal! I always enjoy seeing how friends use their MacKenzie-Childs pieces and using the pitchers to hold folks was a clever use! I know I would enjoy sitting here drinking peach tea! Enjoy summer!

  2. Gorgeous table, Shannon! I love your centerpiece and how it coordinates so beautifully with your linens. I’d love to relax at that table all afternoon! So fun hopping with you! Hope you have a wonderful and less busy summer!

  4. Good Morning dear Shannon,
I have been concerned about you since I have not seen you here or on IG. Now I see why. Whoa!! Lots going on for you.

Your table on the back porch is gorgeous! A relaxing place to be.
I love the use of your porch plant. It's a gorgeous begonia.
The AC cloth and napkins are so rich and vibrant. So lovely! It all is.
Happy Tuesday dear friend. Hope your summer is less eventful for you!

  5. What a fabulous outdoor dining space! How beautiful! I think I would spend my entire summer out here. Your table is bold and lovely. I’m really impressed with the centerpiece of such gorgeous begonias, considering I have difficulty growing them and mine get all straggly and pathetic looking. That iced tea is begging me to join you at your table. I love all of the dinnerware here. Everything is just perfect.

  6. Shannon, these are my colors! Gorgeous! I use coral a lot, both in my wardrobe and in my garden. Your AC tablecloth with the coral and blue is just wonderful, and the begonias are perfect for the table. Famille Rose is an absolute classy and so versatile a pattern for so many looks. Your back porch is an area I don't think I've ever seen, so all that work necessary to the house makes for a wonderful opportunity to re-love your home. So sorry it was a storm with damage that prompted it, but hopefully quiet will follow the chaos. Thanks so much for taking time to share the beauty with us in this summer hop! I'd love to be there in that shade, sipping that peach tea (another favorite of mine!).

  7. Happy June Shannon! What a lovely spot to enjoy a summer meal and glass of peach iced tea while in the shade, but with an outdoor garden view. It looks so cool and inviting! Your April Cornell tablecloth provides a lovely foundation for your table and Famille Rose plates and your coral begonia is the perfect centerpiece and so lush and healthy! I love your pretty paneled outdoor drapes, perfect for privacy and blocking the sun too. I hope things slow for you and you can enjoy the lazy days of summer with your repairs and painting is behind you. As always, it’s a treat to join you at the table and hop with you. 💗

I'm drawn to your mix of patterns against the lovely greens of your yard, brought to your table by the textured placemat.
