How to Make a Corner Swag

Good morning and happy Tuesday, sweet friends. As promised, today I am going to show you how to make a corner floral swag for your front door. I am not a professional floral designer and don’t pretend to be. What I am going to show you is what works best for me. With a few items, you too can create a pretty swag for your door.

This is not a paid promotion for At Home, but that is where I purchased the floral supplies for this particular project. They have so many pretty Spring faux silk flowers.

For this project, you will need wire cutters, scissors, a glue gun, glue sticks, floral wire, and zip ties. I have found a new love for zip ties. They make creating swags and wreaths so much easier. They come in several different lengths and colors. They make attaching things a breeze. For the foundation of the swag, you will need two of these small floral swags.  They look to be the type of swag you would hang vertically on a door.

Next you will need, two floral sprays of the same flower and color..something that is wispy and airy. In addition, you will need two more floral sprays in another color that compliments your design. Also, you will need a spool of pretty ribbon.

To assemble your swag, take the two smaller swags and form an upside down L.  At the corner, where the two swags meet, attach the two swags with zip ties. You may use a heavy gauge floral wire if your prefer, but I found the zip ties did an excellent job securing the two swags together. Make sure you fluff the flowers over where you attached the two swags together. This will hide the area where you secured the two swags together.

After you are finished securing the two swags together, you will want to hot glue the filler flowers throughout the swag. Get creative and use different textures and colors.  I chose to use the same colors that are in the sprays that come out the corner of the swag. In fact, the sprays I chose to use are full enough that I was able to use some of the flowers from the branches. This helps to tie all of the colors in and saves money without having to buy additional floral branches.

Next, you will need to hot glue loops of ribbon throughout the swag.

To make the loops of ribbon, you simply make the loops with tails and attach them to floral picks. However, I didn’t have any floral picks on hand so I simply cut the stem parts of my florals into two inch pieces and wired the ribbon to the stem pieces. This works great and is a wonderful way to recycle your material. These clipped off stems would of just ended up in the trash.

Finally, take a spray of each color, fan them out, and attach them to the corner of the swag. You can use either floral wire or zip ties to attach the branches. Once again, I found the zip ties to be easier to use.

Be sure and fluff your branches out. Your want them to look natural and appear to be growing out of the corner of a vine.

Below is the finished product hanging on my front door.

As you can see, it is super easy to create your own corner swag.

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to include them in the comments. I am not a professional floral designer, but this is what worked best for me. Hopefully, you will find these instructions helpful. It wasn’t difficult to make, and anyone can do it.

Thank you so much for visiting! I hope that you have a beautiful day!!!

  12. Beautiful Shannon
How did you attach it to the door frame and how is the wreath hung on the door

    • Thank you, Ann, for the sweet comment! My sweet husband put a nail in the corner of the door frame. I just attached the swag to the nail with strong gauged floral wire. I was concerned about putting a nail in the door frame, but he promised me it could be patched. I attached the wreath to the door using a Command Strip. They work great. I hope this helps. I am so happy that you stopped by for a visit. I hope that you enjoy the rest of your week!!!

  13. I love your entryway and thanks for the tutorial!

more rigid. Bide wants roses , hydrangeas etc they need a greenery base of floral foam to survive
for 2 days. Would so appreciate your advice. It’s winter here so they will have a fire blazing in dining room
