DESIGNING THE PERFECT ENTRY HALL

I hope that you had a great weekend.  My thoughtful husband surprised me with an anniversary trip to Dallas.  We had a wonderful time, and I came home with some great finds that I will share with you on Tablescape Thursday.

Today, I would like to discuss, one of the most important areas of your home, the entry.  This area not only includes the inside entry but also the outside entry.  Often, it becomes cluttered and neglected.  It is the first area that greets your guests.  Therefore, it should reflect the style of the entire home.  This doesn’t matter how big or small your entry area is in size.  My entry is small,  therefore, I had to make some adjustments to give it more of an impact.

First, I striped the walls.  This gives the area its own identity and creates interest.  For the stripe, I chose a color that was two shades darker than the original paint color.  I made the stripes six inches wide.

Second, I chose a more dramatic chandelier that better suited my French Country theme.

Third, I added an entry hall piece.  This can be a table, chest, bench, or sitting area.  Let the size of your area be your guide.

Fourth, I placed a rug to anchor the area.  I chose a traditional rug with lots of color that reflected the colors used in my home.

Lastly, I added accessories.  I like to change my entry accessories for the season.  Today, I’m showcasing my “Summer Look” for the entry.

Also, artwork and mirrors are important in the entry.  I chose a tall, ornate mirror to add more drama to the room.

I found this umbrella stand at a consignment store and fell in love with it. I just love blue and white pottery.  I think that it is timeless and classic.  I’m still trying to add to my collection of antique walking sticks.
