Perfecting the Foyer

Happy Wednesday, sweet friends! I’m sorry that I didn’t post last week. Lately, I have been in sort of a creative slump. It seems as if it has taken me forever to feel settled into our new home. When we moved into the house, I just wanted to find a place for my things so that it would feel like home. Over time, I have realized that some areas could use a little perfecting. For instance, the foyer is a good place to start.

First impressions are the lasting ones. An entry should be inviting and welcome those who enter your door. It is the area that sets the tone for the rest of the house lending clues to how the home is decorated.

When you enter the front door of my home, you stare directly at this long wall. In the beginning, I had placed a French Country bench in this space. However, it just wasn’t giving that “wow factor.” Therefore, I decided to place this distressed red cabinet in its place.

At the top of the cabinet, you will find two red lamps reinforcing the red theme.

The arrangement in my vignette consists of pine branches, red berries, and magnolia leaves. I plan on  changing the look of my entry decor for the seasons.

Placing blue and white pieces in symmetry to one another gives a collected look to this vignette. I believe that it is very important to have collections displayed in our homes to create a more polished appearance. I know that I have said this before, but you should surround yourself with the things you love. They shouldn’t be put away in cabinets or closets where no one sees them. Enjoy your treasures!

Flanking the cabinet are two Queen Anne style dining chairs. I wish I had a before picture. They looked awful! I purchased these chairs on Craigslist at a low price of $10 for the pair. When we arrived to pick them up, Mr. Bleu looked at me as if I had two heads. He thought that I had lost my mind, but I told him to trust me. So with a little sanding, wood toned spay paint, and pretty red buffalo check fabric these little chairs turned out to be diamonds in the rough.

Below is facing from the inside toward the front door. This is where I decided to place the French Country bench.

Above the bench, I hung my framed print of Monet’s Garden and flanked it with blue and white plates.

Thanks so much for visiting, dear friends. I am planning my spring decor, and I am still in the process of doing more “perfecting”.  I hope to share it all with you soon. I am so ready for winter to be over with, and can’t wait to be outside planting flowers in the warm sunshine. I hope that you all have a wonderful and blessed day!!!

I am so fond of your French Country bench, would love to find one similar for our bedroom. I have the same Monet print. It belonged to my mom, she adored it. You have created a most inviting space.

    • Thank you, sweet Sandra, for the very kind words. The bench belonged to my mother-in-law. She said that she found it at Tuesday Morning several years ago. How special that you have the same Monet print and that it belonged to your mother. How you must treasure it! I hope that you have a wonderful rest of your week!!!

  9. Beautiful foyer! I love all of your furniture choices and I really like the way they pop against the pretty yellow walls. What color is that?

    • Hi Bettsi, thank you so much for the very sweet comment. The color we chose to paint the walls is Straw by Benjamin Moore. I am so sorry that I am running behind in getting back to you. My two younger children have both been sick with strep and an upper respiratory infection. I hope that you have a wonderful week!!!
