March Blooms

Happy March and happy Monday Morning Blooms, dear readers! After a long winter filled with ice, snow, and very cold temperatures, I am so excited for spring’s arrival. If you are as over winter as I am, you are at the right place and in excellent company.

Today, I am so thrilled and honored to be a guest bloomer for Monday Morning Blooms. On the first Monday of each month, my sweet and talented flower loving friends, Pam at Everyday Living, Mary at Home is Where the Boat Is, and Lidy at the French Garden House, share their gorgeous floral creations. They are so gracious to invite me to join them, and links to their beautiful florals can be found at the end of this post.

This month’s theme is bulb flowers, and I must be honest this was a challenge for me. I had grand ideas of finding beautiful potted bulb flowers to add to lovely containers. However, with a recent winter storm, our floral selection was very limited. I was able to find a few tulips, hyacinths, daffodils, and lilies, but they were not very impressive in stature. For the main bouquet of my table, I chose a blue and white pitcher and filled it with tulips, purple hyacinth, lilies, and a few filler flowers and greenery.

A couple of sweet bunnies that belonged to my grandmother decided to join the spring fun.

This table is definitely bursting with lots of floral inspiration from all of the blooms, an April Cornell tablecloth, china, and tole trays.

For the place settings, I chose Crown Linen Design blush ruffled placemats, Williams Sonoma Famille Rose plates, and Limoge salad plates.

I recently found these Limoge plates at an estate auction. A week before the auction closes, I always view the items up for bid. These plates were spotted setting on a table, and I fell in love with them. The plates were by Limoge, and each plate had a different hand painted floral scene. Upon further inspection, I found a signature and date of 1897 on the back of the plates. If you can believe it, I was able to purchase all 6 plates for under $20!

When I was looking for napkins for my table, I was excited to find these Lenox butterfly napkins in my cabinet. Can you believe that I forgot I had them? The butterflies are perfect for a spring table.

When I visited Trader Joes last week, I was able to find this little vase of daffodils. I noticed this weekend that my daffodils are starting to sprout from the ground. This is always such a welcome sight! Their bright sunshine yellow faces always make me smile.

Another welcoming sign of spring arriving this last weekend was the sound of frogs croaking. Their croaking was music to my ears!

On the opposite side of the table, I placed a few spring blooms of tulips, lilies, and hyacinths in little vases. They were the perfect touch of spring to add with my Spode Blue Italian tea set placed on a floral tole tray. The fragrance from the hyacinths was heavenly.

  1. Good morning, Shannon. I just love your blooming table with the brilliant colors of the AC cloth. It is perfect to welcome spring. Your centerpiece of hyacinths, tulips, and lilies placed in the blue and white pitcher with your grandmother’s bunnies alongside is just beautiful. How fortunate to find the gorgeous hand-painted Limoges plates for less than $20, I would say that was a steal. Your Spode tea set and vases of flowers placed on the tole tray is stunning. That reminds me I should use my tole trays more often.

  11. Shannon, there is nothing other than beauty in these blooms you've found for this March MMB! What an explosion of color! Like you, I am so over winter. Ours has been a particularly long and hard one. I am still waiting on my first yard bloom – a daffodil, a hellebore – anything! My pansies in ground did survive winter, but the containers are crying for a redo.
    Happy March MMB!
