Kitchen Reveal Part One

Sweet friends, I have missed you all so much! I apologize for my absence. It was not my intention to be away from blogging this long. Unfortunately, my infection came back with a vengeance. Another trip to the urgent care revealed that there was an underlying infection leading to the secondary infection. I was placed on two potent antibiotics for ten days. They wreaked havoc on my stomach and my lack of energy really frustrated me. Mr. Bleu kept reassuring me that my exhaustion was attributed to being sick and the medication I was taking. I’m just impatient, and I think that I should be back to normal overnight.

I am so happy to report that I am feeling so much better, and my energy levels are back to full speed! My sweet husband was right all along. Another positive note is that the kitchen is finally finished, and it was totally worth all of the mess. I am thrilled with the way it turned out, and I am super excited to share it with you. Grab a cup of coffee or tea and join me for a tour!

Below is the way the kitchen appeared before we purchased the house. You cannot tell from the baskets over the cabinets, but the cabinets were short for the height of the room. Also, the breakfast bar/island combination is a corner piece and is very obtrusive and tall for the room. In actuality, there wasn’t any space to place bar stools at the bar and be allowed to walk behind the stools. The island also protruded into the breakfast area and created a very crowded space.

The flooring in the kitchen, foyer, and utility room was a white ceramic tile with a pink tint. The tile was not really our style and was a chore to keep clean with kids and a dog. Also, the microwave was in an awkward place and took up valuable cabinet space. All of the contents, with the exception of the double ovens, were donated to Habitat for Humanity. They helped removed the kitchen in exchange for being able to sell the items in their home store. The proceeds of donated home goods allows for the construction of new homes for families in need. It is a wonderful cause.

Below is the new and improved space, and we couldn’t be happier! The walls are painted Benjamin Moore Straw along with glazed colored cabinets and copper hardware.  We were torn between stained cabinets and glazed cabinets. We have several mature trees which create a lot of shade in the summer. Therefore, to brighten the space we went with the buttermilk colored cabinets.  Wanting a flooring that is both durable and timeless,  we chose to go with brick pavers. I love their classic look.

The opposite side of the kitchen houses double pantries and a counter depth refrigerator. We went with a counter depth refrigerator for a clean look and to allow for smooth traffic flow. We were concerned that a standard refrigerator would protrude too far into the walkway.

A cinnamon wood stain was used for the island. So, I guess we got our stained cabinets too!  We wanted it to appear as a piece of furniture in the room. We used this same color for butler’s pantry that you will see in a future post.  A microwave drawer was added to the piece. A microwave drawer is very handy in an island. In this picture, you can see a sneak peek of the breakfast area and sunroom. If you will remember, it is one large open space. There was actually a pony wall separating the breakfast area from the sunroom. We removed it, and I was so happy! That wall drove me crazy! I will be sharing more pictures and details of the breakfast area and sunroom in a future post along with photographs of the newly created butler’s pantry.

The range hood was embellished with corbels and a pretty wood piece. It created a wonderful focal point for the room and is one of my favorite details.

The previous cook top was a down draft, and I didn’t really like it. It would take my flame away and create uneven heat distribution. I cook a lot and did some homework on the best cook top for my needs. This is not a paid promotion for Thermador, and my opinions are my own, but I adore this cooktop. It has six burners, and each burner has a star burner for even heat distribution with up to 18,000 BTUs each. It starts up on a dime with none of that click, click, click waiting for the flame to start. Cooking is one of my favorite things to do, and it is how I show my love for others. This cooktop is an absolute dream to cook on!!!

We went with a composite sink in an oiled bronze color. It was something different for me, because I have always had a stainless steel sink. I love the color of this sink with the French Country bridge faucet and copper colored hardware.

Tumbled marble subway tiles were used for the backsplash. I love the rustic element that they add to the room.

I am so happy that you stopped by for a visit today as I have really missed you all a lot! On Thursdays, I will be bringing back Tablescape Thursday, and on Tuesdays I plan to do a decorating post. With things hopefully settling down, I plan to be on a better blogging schedule. Thank you all for your patience with me over this past year. Your kindness and support have meant so much to me. I know my posts have been sporadic since the move, but I promise to do a better job. May you each have a happy and blessed day dear friends!!!

  1. Shannon, I’ll glad to hear you are feeling better! It sounds like you felt really awful. Your new kitchen it an absolute dream!! I love every thing about it! The cabinets and that range hood are gorgeous and I really like the flooring. Don’t you feel like you’re walking into your “happy place” every time you see it?! My husband asked if the food tastes better in our new kitchen and I said no, but cooking is sure a lot more fun! Enjoy!!! ?

    • Thank you, sweet friend, and yes, I do feel like it is my “happy place”. It always seems that the majority of my time is spent in the kitchen or the laundry room-lol. I hope that you are enjoying your week!!!

  2. Shannon, Bless your heart! I am so sorry you have been so sick. Glad you are better now.
You have been very busy! Don’t apologize for not blogging. You would have to be super-woman to be sick and renovate a kitchen and blog too!
I love your new kitchen. The new plan has so many good features. You planned well and I know how much time and effort that goes into that. I also know the mess that comes from ripping out tile. That dust goes everywhere! Love your stove hood, undercounter microwave, new sink with a great window( I’m jealous of that),counter depth refrigerator, and perfect color new cabinets.
I look forward to your upcoming posts.
Happy cooking on that new cooktop!

    • Thank you so much, Bonnie! I do love my kitchen window! It is the first time that I have had one. We fixed a flower bed outside so I now have something pretty to look at when I’m doing dishes. It makes that never ending chore more enjoyable. I hope that you are having a wonderful week, sweet friend!!!

  6. Shannon, your kitchen is gorgeous! I well understand the mess of a kitchen remodel, as we did ours a few years ago. But, in the end, it is so worth all the trouble. Everything you did is beautiful and I especially love your backsplash and cabinet color. So sorry to hear you have been sick, but glad you are feeling better. I, too have missed your posts. Enjoy your new kitchen!

Oh my goodness! Sooooooo worth the wait! What a gorgeous kitchen! I am in love with all of your choices…so warm and inviting! I adore that you have a mix of painted and wood cabinets…I think this will prove to be a timeless choice and the buttermilk paint is so much more homey than white! Don’t even get me started on the floor! If I could do only one thing I’m my own home it would be to add brick pavers! You have created the perfect space…I am off to look again! ADORE!

    • Thank you so much, sweet friend. Those kind words mean so much coming from someone as talented as you are. The brick pavers are wonderful! They always look clean-lol! I hope that you are enjoying your week!!!

  9. I love everything about the kitchen, especially the flooring which can hide a few dropped bread crumbs. The red and white cushions on the two stools sort of jump out at me……could they be tan or brown and white vs. red?

    • Thank you, Virginia, for the sweet comment! For now, I’m going to leave the red cushions. I love to add pops of color to my decor. It just makes me happy! I am a person that loves color, and I adore red. I’m so happy that you stopped by for the tour, and I hope that you are having a wonderful week!!!
