A Late Summer Tea

Welcome to Tea on Tuesday, dear readers! It is stifling outside, and there isn’t a breath of air. So, please step inside where the air conditioning is on, and tea, treats, and friendly conversation awaits you.

Today, I am joining my sweet friends, Pam at Everyday Living and Mary at Home is Where the Boat Is, for Tea on Tuesday. On the third Tuesday of each month, Pam and Mary share the most beautiful tea settings and their love of tea. I am always thrilled when they invite me to be a guest. Links to their gorgeous tea settings can be found at the end of this post.

Since the heat is so miserable outside, I decided to host my tea indoors where it is nice and cool. Please have a seat and pour yourself a cup of tea.

An April Cornell tablecloth, French placemats and napkins provide a cheerful anchor and inspiration for my table. For the tea setting, I chose my grandmother’s blue floral china and paired it with my Oneida Michelangelo flatware. The china pattern is blue madeira by Lynnbrooke.

“There is no trouble so great or grave that cannot be diminished by a nice cup of tea.”-Bernard Paul Heroux

For my centerpiece, I chose a bouquet of red roses, sunflowers, and hydrangeas placed in a red pitcher.

“But indeed, I would rather have nothing but tea.”-Jane Austen

My tea of choice for this gathering is my favorite, Earl Grey. Earl Grey tea is a tea blend which has been flavored with oil of bergamot.

“Some people will tell you there is a great deal of poetry and fine sentiment in a chest of tea.”-Ralph Waldo Emerson

I made a fresh batch of peach muffins and cucumber sandwiches for us to enjoy with our tea. One of my most favorite things about summer is peaches. During the summer, I make a trip to the local peach orchard at least once a week. I love, love, love peaches! I have made several jars of peach preserves to enjoy this winter.

“A cup of tea solves everything.”-unknown

“Tea time is a chance to slow down, pull back and appreciate our surroundings.”-Letitia Baldridge

My sweet friends, I am so happy that you stopped by and joined me for tea today. Your visits always bring me joy!

Tea time is such a wonderful time to rest, reflect, and enjoy a moment of peace.

“Come sit down and have some tea. Bread and butter, cream and sugar. Now tell me of your troubles.”-A.A. Milne

I hope you have enjoyed your visit and found a little peace from the hectic world. Please be sure and visit my tea loving friends, Pam and Mary. May you have a most blessed rest of your day, friends!

  1. Good morning, Shannon. I love the April Cornell cloth and the French placemats and napkins. They are beautiful foundations for tea in your gorgeous refreshed dining room with Palladian Blue walls and your beautiful new rug. How very special to have your beloved grandmother’s china, I know it is a treasure. The red rooster pitcher with the sunflowers, hydrangeas, and roses make a lovely centerpiece. I would so enjoy a peach muffin this morning. Peaches are my favorite summer fruit.

It is a treat to have you join Mary and me for Tea On Tuesdays. Wishing you a most delightful day, sweet friend!

  2. Good Morning Shannon,
I am enjoying my Earl Grey tea with you at your lovely table. What a charming conversation we are having.
I love that you often share your Grandmother’s china. How nicely it all goes with your AC linen and French placemats in your newly refreshed dining room.
I enjoy red and that pitcher filled with flowers is gorgeous!
Thank you for such a beautiful tea time.
    Happy Tuesday dear friend!

  3. Magical. That is the first word that came to mind. I love all the color, patterns, textures and light. I so appreciate you sharing your Grandmother's china with us. No doubt it is decades old, and fits in perfectly with today's tea setting. You can never go wrong with classic, timeless (and roosters!), and this tea party exemplifies that perfectly. I'm so impressed that you made jars of peach preserves! All of your posts feel like I am being dipped into a little pool of perfection and beauty.

  4. What a lovely tea party Shannon! Your table is so bright and cheerful with the red, blue and yellow! Love the pattern mix and the beautiful sunflowers and roses. The red pitcher is so pretty and your cucumber sandwiches and peach muffins are perfect bites with the tea. I love all the tea quotes you included too. Your grandmother's china is beautiful~

  5. Good Morning Shannon, I left a comment this morning before I was out the door to walk the dogs…and poof it was gone! I’m back to enjoy your beautiful table in your signature French Country style. I noticed you painted your dining room, I love the new color! I adore your rooster pitcher with sunflowers, roses and hydrangeas and pretty patterns and linens on your table. A peach muffin and cucumber sandwich sound like the perfect teatime treat. We’re so happy to have you join us for Tea on Tuesdays. ☕ Wishing you a wonderful week and cooler weather ahead! 🌹 💗

  6. Kari @ Me and My Captain

Shannon thank you for letting us have another look at your lovely new dining room. I had to smile at the Oneida Michelangelo flatware. I have the same pattern packed away in a red velvet lined silverware chest and I must dig it out one day soon. I have not used it in years. When the Captain and I first married, I had stashed away Mikasa "Just Flowers" china, Michelangelo flatware, stemware, napkins, tablecloths and napkin rings in a sort of Hope Chest. Thanks for the reminder to prepare a table with all the pieces. I have always admired your ability to 'store by seeing ' your lovely blue dishes in your dining room hutch. They are always there to admire and use. I am drinking a hot cup of green tea as I write this so cheers my friend and thanks for a virtual Tea on Tuesday at your beautiful table.

  7. Shannon, Your tea table is so cheerful and happy just like you.! You chose lovely striking colors. Your dining room is a delightful setting. You have a way with patterns and colors.
Your food looks delicious and is so inviting.
As always, your quotes make us feel good and are encouraging.

  8. Oh, wow! I love this because it has French vibes! Your linens are so pretty…everything is. I love the French-inspired patterns, and my favorite things are the quilted placemats. Beautiful setting for a lovely tea party.

  9. Shannon, I'm late to tea! I've been traveling and off line of late. I'm loving the French vibes of the April Cornell linens with the French placemats. Your grandmother's china is lovely and new to me. Don't you know she is smiling knowing you are using her china? Everything is perfect for tea.
