A Merry Christmas Tablescape

Happy December, my friends! I can hardly believe that the Christmas season is upon us. It is my most favorite time of year, and I must confess that I actually began decorating a little earlier than usual. With everything going on, we needed something to lift our spirits. So the kids and I got busy in early November decking the halls.

Today, I am so excited to be joining my tablescaping friends to bring you our Christmas tables. We are always blessed to be led by our fearless leader the gracious Chloe at Celebrate and Decorate. A list and links to the participants can be found at the end of this post.

For my tablescape, I chose to use a simple centerpiece that can be displayed throughout the Christmas season. I wanted something low profile that wouldn’t be too fussy and get in the way of conversation. Therefore, I chose to use a magnolia garland accented with alternating colors of red and cream flameless candles.

Each placesetting is anchored with a red placemat and gold charger plate. For the plate stacks, I chose to use my Spode Blue Italian dinner plates topped with cute Christmas farm scene plates from Better Homes and Gardens. I purchased these plates several years ago. My go to flatware of Oneida Michelangelo and Godinger crystal stemware accents each setting.

Red plaid napkins with sweet candy canes tucked in complete each setting.

The china hutch is also decked out for the season. Christmas greens, pinecones, magnolias, and pheasant feathers create a festive touch.

My dear friends, I am so happy that you stopped by today! Your kind comments and visits always make my day. I was absent last week, because I was a little preoccupied. A few weeks ago, I lost my dear pet, Rusty. He was with me for over 16 years, and I along with my family loved him dearly. Rusty was always by my side no matter what and practically helped me raise my children. When my children were sick, he would lie at the foot of their bed until he knew that they were feeling better. If they were getting into something they shouldn’t be, he would be sure and let me know about it. My heart has been broken, but I know I was truly blessed to have him in good health for so long.

Knowing that I missed my Rusty so much, Mr. Bleu surprised me with an early Christmas present last week. When you see the photograph below, I think you will understand why I have been a little distracted. I would like you all to meet Miss Ruby. She has truly melted my heart and brought such a ray of sunshine into our household. Everyone is smitten with her, and she is already spoiled rotten. She wants to be held all the time, and cries when you put her down. I’ll have to admit with all the upset and craziness going on right now, she has been a welcome distraction. Sweet puppy cuddles are the best!

It is my wish that you have a most blessed and joyous holiday season filled with peace. I will be back soon to show you more of my home decorated for Christmas. Next up on the tour is Mary at Home is Where the Boat Is. Her tables are always gorgeous! Take care sweet friends, and enjoy your day!

  10. Your table looks beautiful Shannon, and I love the plate stack of gold, blue and then Christmas plates, such a wonderful mix and perfect for your red and blue dining room! Your sideboard looks so festive, and the red magnolias are fantastic! I'm so sorry about Rusty, loosing a pet is truly heart breaking, and your new addition of Miss Ruby is delightful, she looks almost like a child's teddy bear and very huggable! I truly wish you and your family a magical holiday season!

I am so sorry for your loss. The pain of the loss is very difficult. It can be very comforting to welcome a new member of the family and a good diversion.
I am going to use your Very Merry Table idea. I have blue and white (Johnson Brothers). Christmas Tree (Spode) and Dover (Oneida).
    Your table is beautiful!

Thanks for the ideas and give fur baby a big hug!

  12. First, Shannon I am so very sorry for your loss of Rusty. I lost my Scottie boy, Fibber, last December and it really undermined my joy of the season. Nearly a year later, and I think of him and miss him daily. Hoping 2021 will bring me a new puppy. Treasure your memories of Rusty and enjoy the new ones created with Ruby.

Your table and dinning room are so festive and full of Christmas cheer. I especially enjoyed seeing how we both have the same accent plates, but styled very different tables. Love how you brought in blue to coordinate with the dishes in your sideboard.

  13. Oh Shannon, I am so sorry to hear about Rusty. Pets do give so much joy and they are one of the family members. I sure Rusty will be missed. In addition, Miss Ruby, is one to help with the grief of Rusty and is one who definitely melts the heart. What a precious cutie. I hope she will fill your heart with as much joy as Rusty. Now, not to take away from the beauty of your gorgeous table…..I was absolutely wowed over your stunning table and cupboard. I always hoped for a open shelved cupboard like yours, especially in black. You decorated it so beautifully with your table. I love how you incorporated the cornflower blue table runner into your design which plays up your blue dishes and the red in your table even more. The mix of patterns really is soothing and gives such a warm welcoming homey feeling. Your table is as sweet as your new member of your family. Enjoy the both of them during the holiday! Merry Christmas!

  14. Shannon, your Ruby is such a gift and bright spot in this of most terrible years. Poor Rusty. I'm sorry for you. I know how sad that is. I also had a poodle (chocolate miniature) that we lost on Dec 23 several years ago. I was so sad for so long. I think Ruby will help you fill that aching void a pet leaves us with.
Your table AND hutch are both so beautiful in your casual French elegance you've set. I really like the blues with the reds and greens and gold. The red magnolias in the hutch were eye-catching to me as I panned the picture of the table. It's all pulled together so nicely.
Happy December, my friend, and may you have plenty of cuddles and wet kisses from your sweet Ruby.

Shannon, I am so glad you have adorable Miss Ruby to shower you w/ love…. it is so hard losing a fur baby. She is absolutely precious! Is she a maltipoo? Your dining room is stunning w/ your lovely Spode china and hutch so beautifully decorated (as always). I still have some final touches to incorporate, but the house already looks very festive. I believe we all need, especially this year, the beauty and hope that Christmas imparts. Wishing you & yours a wonderful holiday season, sweet lady. Hugs!

  16. This brought tears to my eyes. So sorry for your loss,I have lost my sweet babies over the years and never stop missing them. Glad, though, that you have a beautiful new love, that helps some with the pain. House looking lovely and warm.

  17. Oh sweetie I'm so sorry about Rusty. I know it will come in about 5 years for ours and it aches my heart already.

Sweet Muss Ruby looks like a powder puff. I loved the puppy years.

Your table is stunning and don't you love flameless candles? Your deep red is pretty along with your hutch.

    Always French country perfect.

  18. I know how terrible it can be to lose a beloved pet, I am sure you are loving all of the puppy cuddles with sweet little Ruby. She is just adorable! Your table is so lovely. I am sure just walking by your dining room with that table set gets you in the holiday mood. The decorated hutch is a perfect backdrop to your pretty table. Don't you love those Better Homes and Gardens plates? I have collected so many of the different patterns over the years! The farmhouse scenes on yours want you to cuddle up and stay in from the cold! Happy Christmas!

  19. Shannon, your dining room looks so beautiful all decked out for the holidays. The hutch looks fabulous with your plate collections and greenery. The plate stack is so pretty. May she fill your heart with love. Here's to a happy holiday.

  20. Your table looks so pretty with all of the layered plates and I LOVE all the blue transferware in the hutch. The hutch is as beautiful as the table I'm so glad you shared it. Fun hopping with you today. Your puppy is SOOOO adorable. That's such a good distraction.

  21. So sorry to hear about Rusty. We lost our Rottweiler 11 years ago and it still hurts. Lil Ms Ruby is adorable and I'm happy that you have her. Everything from the hutch to the centerpiece and dinnerware is perfectly coordinated and styled. The BHG plates pair so well with the Spode ones and the multi-layered chargers. I was tempted to start decorating for Christmas but time got away from me. Have a peaceful and Happy Holiday season!

  22. I'm so sorry and so happy all at once! Nothing could ever replace your Rusty, but Ruby is her own source of joy! 🙂 And your table and home are as beautiful as always! So nice to be hopping with you my friend!

  23. I'm so sorry for your loss, Shannon, but I'm glad to see that you've found happiness again with Miss Ruby. She will surely bring joy to your family this holiday season. She is so cute and cuddly! Like the others, I'm crushing on your hutch with the beautiful blue and white plates and the evergreens with red accents! Your tablescape looks so festive and welcoming. I love the plaid napkins with the candy cane favors. I wasn't aware of the BHG plates! I love the red barn and sleigh pattern. The whole look is very French and elegant! It's always a pleasure hopping with you! Pinned 🙂
